About

Since 1951, Guthrie Livestock Auction has proudly served cattle producers and buyers throughout Iowa and the surrounding region. Located in Guthrie Center, Iowa, our auction has been a trusted gathering place where generations of farmers come together to market quality livestock with honesty, integrity, and personal service.

As a family-owned and operated business, Guthrie Livestock Auction has been part of the Laughery family for three generations. Today, Terry Laughery and Dan Laughery continue that tradition, building on decades of experience while remaining committed to the values that have made our auction a respected name in the livestock industry.

Whether you're buying or selling, our goal is to provide a fair, dependable marketplace backed by knowledgeable service and strong relationships. We take pride in supporting local producers and helping connect buyers and sellers every week, just as we have for more than 75 years.

At Guthrie Livestock Auction, we're more than an auction. We're a tradition built on trust, family, and agriculture.

The Laughery Family

Guthrie Livestock Auction has been a Laughery family operation for three generations. Terry and Dan grew up in this business, and today they run it together the same way the family always has: side by side.

Together the brothers bring decades of combined experience in the livestock industry. They know cattle, they know the market, and they know the farmers and ranchers who move through this barn week after week. From accepting consignments to running the ring to settling up after the sale, every part of this operation is handled by family, and it has been since 1951.

For Sellers: What to Expect

Two of the most common questions we hear from first-time consignors: when do you get paid, and when should you bring your cattle in?

We pay promptly after the sale. Cattle should arrive before the sale start time so they can be properly checked in and sorted. If you have questions about timing, consignment requirements, or what to expect on sale day, call us before you load up.

Not sure if your cattle are ready to sell? We will come to you. We make on-site visits to your farm to evaluate your cattle, meet with you, and talk through the best way to market them. Call us and we will set up a time.
